No Base Project

For this project, you will create a ceramic object that can be picked up and moved to any orientation and still work structurally and visually.

The objective of this project is to gain a better understanding of one of the most important aspects of learning to work with clay – TIMING.

When to rotate, flip over, add new parts, and manipulate all sides of a ceramic object is a skill one needs for both handbuilding, throwing, and slipcasting.

Additionally, you will need to think creatively about how you will fire your object. What firing process will be best? How can you make accommodations to your object and it’s surface to account for the firing process?
