Notes about Celadon

Although I am no glaze expert, overlooking these celadon glazes it is obvious what materials are used within them. A few things to note when developing your own celadon or altering another recipe is that I find grolleg when used as the clay produces a bluer tone compared to epk and other clays.

One other important thing to note is the difference in Feldspars. Most of these glaze use Custer Feldspar which works well with the recipe. However It can run when mixed with other glazes and should be taken into consideration. The Minspar 200 however appears to be a much more stable feldspar and I have seen it used in more pure blues (not certain that it produces a bluer tone just something I noted). A few things to support this are my clay body which uses a fair amount of custer feldspar however does tend to slump and warp whereas a friend of mines body which uses minispar 200 does not do either really. Also every celadon I have used such as the IUS Celadon will get thick and run when mixed with certain glazes whereas the Pale Blue Celadon which utilizes the Minispar 200 does not, however it does not blend well with other glazes alone.
