Stewardship of our Communal Spaces

Your active engagement in the success of the studio is essential. This involves taking pride in ensuring that the studio is clean, organized, and functioning effectively. Embrace the understanding that the ceramics studio is a shared resource—a “commons”—where we not only hone our artistic skills but also grow together as individuals and as a community. It is a place for collaboration, mutual learning, and collective growth, not just a personal workspace.

You have the opportunity to be a leader in our studio community. Your role is crucial in shaping the environment and setting a positive tone for the space. With your specialized knowledge, you are uniquely equipped to contribute to maintaining an organized, efficient, and welcoming studio. To support this, you are required to dedicate at least one hour per week (outside of class time) to studio maintenance and upkeep.

This shared responsibility not only ensures the studio operates smoothly but also provides me with meaningful insights to highlight in letters of recommendation or reference calls. Demonstrating your commitment to the studio’s communal success is a valuable attribute that employers, graduate programs, and residency directors frequently seek. Your contributions reflect leadership, responsibility, and a spirit of collaboration—qualities that will serve you well in your future endeavors.
